The Naming of Googoosha
[edit]As Iranian pop culture and Music icon Googoosh is very well-known in Persian- and Turkic-speaking countries and regions of the Middle Asia, it appears that Ms. Karimova has adopted her stage name after Googoosh. Is there an evidence indicating the nickname has nothing to do with Googoosh?
POV issues
[edit]NPOV- This article is written as propaganda or as fansite material and contains unnecessary personal details and praise. No mention of Gulnara Karimova's father, the Uzbek dictator Islom Karimov is made. The lack of potentially negative information such as her role in her father's autocratic government and her possible succession to his post makes this page biased. The article also fails to mention that Karimova is currently under an Interpol arrest warrant.
Inappropriate tone- The tone, grammar and spelling of this article is not consistent with the standards set for an encyclopaedia. CellanBurns (talk) 00:43, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- The article in its current state is almost unsalvageably POV, reading like a PR puff piece rather than an encyclopedic article. This revision is how the article looked before the problematic edits overhauled the article; this version has problems of its own but if someone wants to take a stab at a rewrite it's a better starting point than the current revision, in my opinion. --Muchness (talk) 01:14, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed, this article needs a complete rewrite. The earlier version was better, but not much. Any takers? Omaniphil (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 20:51, 25 September 2008 (UTC).
The article about her sister has the same problems : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lola_Karimova-Tillyaeva Armando Navarro (talk) 01:20, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Isn't it a bit of a stretch to say that her alma mater is Harvard? It appears she only took classes there, but did not graduate. Dagojr (talk) 06:55, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Rewrite
[edit]I've given the article a major rewriting. Specifically, i've removed a lot of the promotional writing, and added more sources. I've also removed the tags, as I believe the issues have been addressed. Feel free to discuss if you disagree.
For future additions, I'd like to see more on the idea that she's President Karimov's heir-apparent. Also, I think her music and fashion activities could be notable, in the context that she's being promoted by her father. Chris (complaints)•(contribs) 03:49, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
About title "Divorce and scandal": The heading is not sourced,so "arrest warrant" can be repaced by "scandal" which more reflects the situation and can be found in source by number [8]
- I have an information from very trusted source (which I can not divulge unfortunately) about recent US court official decision on the issue. How can I add it to the section without adding a reference? Any advice? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Muharrir (talk • contribs) 07:30, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
About other: Ok, you may leave the last sentence where you say the sourced info is removed but not the preceding one (In addition, 24 of Maqsudi's relatives were deported to Afghanistan at gunpoint) which is simply replaced by the neutral statement from the same source by number [5]: Xusanboy (talk) 11:09, 3 March 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xusanboy (talk • contribs) 10:11, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
About website: the current website is hacked. I've removed it.
Photo
[edit]I uploaded a high-quality image of me in order to prove that I am the author. At the beginning I had trouble sorting out the license issue, which caused a hitch. After consulting with Wikipedia administrators, I sorted out everything and proved my authorship by downloading the original image. Also, I think it is a more appropriate picture for this article, because your photo leaves a lot to be desired, in terms of both quality and composition. I hope you agree and we will not have any disagreement over the photos for this article, unless you are acting in someone elses interests Let me remind you that every participant in the Wikipedia is entitled to make their own contribution, based on the principle of neutral points of view. Best regards, timir01 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Timir01 (talk • contribs) 10:03, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- What do you exactly mean when you say "image of me"? Are you Gulnora Karimova? Another question: you say you consulted the admin: where did you discuss with them? I don't see anything like that in your contribution history. --TwøWiñgš Talk to me 15:00, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Allegations of marriage with Safoyev
[edit]This is for IP 195.158.11.2 who keeps removing the section about the second marriage allegations. It's unclear why you try to remove the sourced information about her alleged marriage. This has been reported by local Central Asian and the international press, as sourced in the article. Additionally, the fact about refuting or disproving the allegations, whichever you want to put it, had also been added to the section. Tuscumbia (talk) 13:06, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

A NYT article on Karimova
[edit]This article gives a nice summary of the recent media frenzy over Karimova. Nataev talk 08:39, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
BBC article
[edit]This BBC News article reports a letter, purportedly from Karimova herself, that claims she is being held prisoner. The article also goes on to suggest that her business empire and support base is being dismantled. If true, this would be a major development. -- The Anome (talk) 09:45, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
- Came to add that here. It could be added the sectin on her current status(Lihaas (talk) 16:59, 25 March 2014 (UTC)).
Intro
[edit]The introduction talks about her being head of particular organizations and active in politics, or at least that is implied. However, she's been under house arrest for well over a year now. This is mentioned at the very end of the article - and with 3 sources (and it is true, regardless). Shouldn't this be in the intro? She isn't active in anything, the Uzbek state has taken her businesses, purportedly arrested thousands of her supporters, possibly murdered her love interest... She was never a 'good' person, she has purportedly done many horrible things but that doesn't mean the incarceration of her should be relegated to the article's end, in fact - the short intro is simply very misleading. I don't have the time to find sources (or even login) now but hopefully someone will take care of this major problem (oh, and it is widely believed that all this was done by a top defense official as she was seen as heir apparent after her father dies - and the head of defense would rather be in that position). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:D:2180:68F:986E:74ED:C8B1:CEB5 (talk) 09:19, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Inappropriately self-aggrandizing photo
[edit]Gulnara Karimova is a corrupt kleptocrat. The lede image on the other hand portrays her as a glamorous model. This is wholy inappropriate, and I have removed the image for the time being, per NPOV reasons. 69.172.145.94 (talk) 01:01, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
Father was a dictator
[edit]By omitting that her father ruled a dictatorship, a lot of the content in this articles does not make sense (such as her being groomed to be his successor). It also violates BLP by omitting context related to her involvement in the Uzbek criminal justice system. Snooganssnoogans (talk) 12:14, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- The whole lede needs a rewrite, leaving out the speculation from the late 2000s. BTW, successions are not limited to dictators. — kashmīrī TALK 15:32, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

- I'm confused by your comment. What does primogeniture in monarchies have to do with this article? 15:53, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- See, by saying "dictator", you are not conveying any meaning. Dictatorships aren't necessarily hereditary, and being groomed for a successor happens also in democratic countries (e.g., the Gandhi family in India). The lead section should convey basic, neutral information about the subject (per WP:BLP) and not controversial opinions about the subject's parents. — kashmīrī TALK 15:50, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- I believe that readers would be well-served if it were clarified that she was being groomed to be installed as the successor to her dictator father, precisely to avoid the confusion that she was going to run for office in democratic elections like family members in democracies may do. Snooganssnoogans (talk) 16:01, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- Are you aware that this was only speculation on the part of media and some "experts"? Because Karimov never publicly confirmed such intentions, and there was no succession before. Definitely not worthy to remain in lede. — kashmīrī TALK 18:58, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
